Pedernales Falls State Park

HomeArea GuideAttractionsPedernales Falls State Park

Texas Hill Country is known for its fabulous parks and natural settings, and although our I Love Dripping Springs homes and condos are mostly in Dripping Springs and Austin, we strongly suggest you get out and explore all the beauty this region offers, starting with a visit to Pedernales Falls State Park! Located in Johnson City, 5000+ acre park is located just 25 miles outside of the town of Dripping Springs and offers a taste of Texas that will appeal to adventurer’s palates. Perhaps the best part of the park is its location along the shores of the Pedernales River, and of course, the falls from which the park has earned its name. Providing adventures for visitors, today we want to talk to about the fun and excitement you can expect from a visit to this beautiful part of our state and maybe mention a little about coming home to our I Love Dripping Springs sanctuaries after your day’s adventures!

So Much to Do at Pedernales Falls State Park

The beauty of Texas Hill Country’s landscape makes outdoor adventures the most popular ones, and there is no better example than the ones you can experience at Pedernales Falls State Park. Spend your day hiking along trails that follow its namesake river, or for thrill seekers rent a mountain bike and explore the 6-mile-long Wolf Trail or the more challenging 10-mile-long Juniper Ridge Trail, where its single track provides a plethora of obstacles seasoned bikers will enjoy! The river itself, of course, offers watery adventures, including swimming, wading, tubing, and the most joyful activity, fishing for your night’s supper. (Many of our Dripping Springs escapes offer barbecue grills, ensuring that your catch of the day is a flavorful one!) Getting to the swimming area involves a challenging hike, but at least you will be able to cool off with a dip in chilly waters upon your arrival and be sure to only swim in designated areas; the waters near the falls can be extremely rough and dangerous. The river is also a popular spot for canoers and kayakers, but again, not in the area of Pedernales Falls. The falls are beautiful to observe but getting stuck in rough waters can put a serious damper on your vacation experience!
