The year-round sun and warmth of Texas is what makes it a great getaway no matter when you need a break. It’s a patriotic place to spend the 4th, with a historic district that takes you back to the early American West. Historic Dripping Springs offers an experience like no other, with many buildings as old as the 1870s and many other popular historic landmarks either in town or nearby. You’ll want to make sure your 4th of July Dripping Springs getaway area includes plenty of fun and excitement to keep everyone happy and busy.

Fire in the Sky

Some of the best fireworks for the 4th can be seen when you attend the Fire in the Sky event. The annual event is billed as one of the best opportunities to see fireworks in Dripping Springs. The event isn’t just fireworks. Spend the day enjoying delicious Texas BBQ, live music, local beverages, and much more before settling in to watch the sky light up with red, white, and blue. Admission is free, and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. The event location is TBA.

Lyndon B Johnson Boyhood Home

There’s nothing more patriotic than connecting with your country’s history. When you visit Dripping Springs, take some time out to soak up the presidential history surrounding our 36th president, Lyndon B. Johnson, with a visit to his boyhood home. Johnson lived at the home from the age five until his high school graduation in 1924, and the home is listed as a national historic park. Step inside and check out the early to mid-1920s décor of the home, which reflects the rural Texas lifestyle Johnson and his family would have had. Learn more when you join one of the daily free guided tours available hourly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a lunch break from the staff at noon.

Historic Mercer Street

The rich history of Dripping Springs is always available to be explored, especially during the 4th of July holiday when there’s a focus on American history. Historic Mercer Street has many tales to tell about the town’s origins and its progress throughout the years. There is also plenty of Old West heritage lining the street, as many of the buildings, which now house town businesses like the “Barber Shop” bar and Vintage Soul boutique were built between 1870 and 1940. These and the other businesses lining the street will be dressed in their patriotic best.

Hamilton Pool Preserve

Make a red, white, and blue splash during your 4th of July trip to Dripping Springs. Wear your patriotic summer clothes and enjoy a patriotic picnic lunch before diving in. The beautiful landscape and cool, refreshing waters of Hamilton Pools draws many locals and tourists year after year. Join young and old alike at the natural wonder that was formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed. The unique structure left behind includes a waterfall and grotto. The pool is part of a 234-acre nature preserve, considered a “gem” among Texas swimming holes and a must-see. You’ll need sensible, close-toed shoes for the hike back to the pool, and you can bring your swim suit and a picnic lunch to enjoy your time at the pool. Plan ahead, as you’ll need to book a time slot during your visit if it occurs sometime between March and December. Slots are four hours long, but there are an elite 140 available each day, and each group member will need their own slot to attend.
