As you begin to explore the charms and luxuries of your I Love Dripping Springs winter sanctuary, you may be perfectly content to stay home and play, as they offer pretty much everything you could hope for in vacation accommodations, but of course there is more to do during your stay! Dripping Springs and the surrounding areas are home to museums that allow you to take a peek into our past, delicious restaurants, a highly entertaining nightlife, and exciting events and festivals that make the most out of the beauty of the winter ventason. This guide to the fun you can have while taking part in these top winter events in Dripping Springs will make you wonder why you waited so long to take this winter break!
Austin Fashion Week, December 2-5, The Domain
Although technically still fall, we consider anytime after Thanksgiving the beginning of the winter season, and Austin Fashion Week offers the perfect kickoff to the season. Held on a smaller scale this year due to the pandemic, all the runway shows will take place outdoors and during the day, taking advantage of the beauty of our weather while keeping visitors and participants safe and healthy! Come to Texas, check out the latest styles, and take part in the return to normalcy as you sip wine and ooh and ahh over gorgeous clothing. A good time is guaranteed to be had by all at these Dripping Springs events!
Christmas on Mercer Street, December 4
Of course, the top events in winter always seem to revolve around Christmas, so our next stop will be Christmas on Mercer Street, held right here in Dripping Springs. Featuring pony rides and trackless train rides, cheerful lights and festive music, and of course great food and drink, this much-awaited event is generally the starter pistol to all Christmas activities! They are still working out the details, so we can’t be sure if Santa will be making appearance, (Santa needs to stay healthy for the big job he has coming up!) but if not, just like last year a mailbox for letters to him will be strategically placed on the street. For mom and dad, who may not have finished all their Christmas shopping, a variety of vendors will be setting up their tents filled with arts, crafts, and gifts that will easily help you check off names on your own naughty and nice list!
Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, December 15-24, Palmer Events Center in Austin
Speaking of shopping, the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is the best way to get your shopping done while having a great time with Dripping Springs events! We often wait until the last two weeks of the month to do a majority of our gift seeking because we know that this bazaar never fails to please and is as funny and weird as Austin is itself. Reappearing after a brief hiatus in 2020, the bazaar features more than just shopping, of course, as it offers scavenger hunts, photo opportunities, great food, and live entertainment. The annual “String Off” pokes fun at the tangled lights we suffer through when lighting our homes and trees each year; artists and staff compete to throw the most knots in strings, and the artwork displayed is the best of the best; look into their concierge services to help you find the piece that will make your living room shine!
The Dripping Springs Gun Show, January 15-16, Dripping Springs Ranch Park and Events Center
Guns are a way of life here in Texas, and if you have been thinking of adding to your own collection or are just curious to see what’s new and unique, the Dripping Springs Gun Show helps cure the mid-winter blues. Food and beverage vendors offer a taste of Texas and sips of your favorite drinks as you stroll through the aisles seeking the gun that speaks loudest to you! Because transport can be tricky, many of the professional vendors offer shipping, so be sure to ask if you see something you really can’t leave without. In any case, this show is the perfect place to purchase ammunition, knives, and anything weaponry related and just may end up being one of your favorite Texas experiences!
Austin Home and Garden Show, January 13-16, Austin Convention Center
Guns aren’t everyone’s idea of a good time, but nearly everyone does care about making their homes and gardens pretty, and the Austin Home and Garden Show, held the same weekend as the Dripping Springs Gun Show, is a fantastic way to see what is new on the home décor horizon and pick yourself up some cool gadgets and gizmos along the way! The Austin Convention Center is huge, and it really may take more than one day to see everything they have to offer, so purchasing tickets for more than one day is perfectly reasonable. Offering food, drinks, music, and everything under the sun related to your home and garden, this event is guaranteed to be a highlight of your Dripping Springs winter getaway!
